Privacy policy
Last updated October 27, 2026
Haul is a tool for saving video and audio from links. This policy covers this website, the Haul browser extension, the Haul PC helper and the Haul Android app. We keep as little as we can, and we never sell data or use it for ads.
What we don't do
- No accounts. You don't sign up or give us your name.
- No ads, ad trackers or analytics scripts.
- No selling or sharing of data with advertisers or data brokers.
What the website handles
- The links you paste. The server sends them to the site you linked (for example YouTube) to get the title and formats, and to download the file if you choose to download on the server.
- A request log. For each download request the server notes the time, your IP address, your browser's user agent, the link, its title and site, the format you picked and whether it worked. This is used to stop abuse and fix problems. It is deleted after 30 days.
- Downloaded files. When a file is made on the server it's deleted a few minutes after you download it, or after 30 minutes if nobody does. We don't keep copies.
- Your browser's storage. The page keeps your recent downloads list (and an access key, if the server needs one) in your browser's local storage. It never leaves your browser except to talk to this server. Clearing your site data removes it.
- Fonts. Pages load fonts from Google Fonts, so Google receives your IP address and browser details when the fonts load. See Google's privacy policy.
Downloading on your own PC
When the Haul extension and PC helper are installed, downloads run on your computer, not on our server. The website only asks the extension to start them. The extension and helper don't send your browsing history or files to us.
Browser extension
- The extension reads the address of the page you're on only when you use it (for example to show a download button on a video page, or when you click it), so it can offer to download that video.
- It talks to the PC helper on your own computer to download, and saves files to the folder you choose.
- Settings are kept in your browser's extension storage.
- Send to phone. If you pair the extension with the Haul app, links you choose to send are held on this server until your phone collects them, then deleted. Links nobody collects are deleted after 7 days. Pairs that are never confirmed expire after 10 minutes. Unpairing deletes the pair and any waiting links.
Android app
- The app downloads on your phone. Links you share to it go to the site you linked, not to us.
- It checks this website for updates. That request includes your IP address and the app version, like any web request.
- If you pair it with the extension, it collects sent links from this server as described above.
Other sites
Links you download from are fetched from their own sites (YouTube, Instagram and others), which have their own privacy policies. We don't control what they collect.
Security
The site is meant to be served over HTTPS. Keys used for send to phone are long random values and are checked on every request. No system is perfectly secure, so don't send links you consider secret.
Children
Haul isn't aimed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect their data.
Your choices
You can clear your browser's site data, remove the extension, uninstall the helper or app, and unpair send to phone at any time. To ask about or remove request-log entries tied to your IP address, use the contact page.
Changes
If this policy changes, the new version is posted here with a new date.
